I decided remove the word "NO" from my vocabulary when my daughter was little. It seems a bit awkward at first but then it became second nature. For example, I would say something like "It is not a toy", instead of no. To my amazement we never experienced the terrible two's. We all had to be on the same page. My wife and I plus the nanny. Also there is some truth to the example you stated about no running. As a ski instructor, we focus on what we want to see rather than what we do not.
